TE Connectivity, a leading division in circuit protection, has introduced a new low-resistance (Low Ï) surface mount device (SMD) series designed specifically for mobile applications where space is at a premium. These advanced devices provide both overcurrent and overtemperature protection for battery pack circuits in compact consumer electronics such as smartphones, MP3/4 players, and portable GPS devices. The new SMD family addresses the growing demand for flexible, cost-effective, and energy-efficient solutions in the fast-evolving mobile market, making them ideal for modern, space-constrained designs.
The devices are available in industry-standard form factors, including 1210 (3.0mm × 2.54mm), 1206 (3.0mm × 1.52mm), and 1812 (3.0mm × 4.57mm). This variety allows manufacturers to choose the most suitable size based on their design requirements. Additionally, these components can be assembled using reflow soldering, which not only saves board space but also reduces production costs compared to traditional spot welding methods.
With a resistance of just 10 to 25 mΩ after reflow, these low-resistance SMDs help minimize power consumption and improve battery efficiency—key advantages for battery-powered devices. The family includes nine new models rated for operating currents of 2A or higher, offering reliable performance in a wide range of applications.
“TE’s new low-resistance SMD family provides manufacturers with greater flexibility and choice, helping them meet the diverse design challenges of today’s compact electronics,†said Xu Zhifeng, Product Manager at TE Circuit Protection. “Battery pack suppliers are especially interested in improving and expanding their product lines, and these devices will support their design goals while simplifying installation processes.â€
The new models include:
- microSMD190LR-2
- microSMD200LR-2
- microSMD250LR-2
- microSMD350LR-2
- nanoSMD175LR-2
- nanoSMD200LR-2
- nanoSMD270LR-2
- nanoSMD350LR-2
- miniSMDC350LR-2
The “micro†prefix denotes the 1210 package, “nano†refers to the 1206, and “mini†corresponds to the 1812 format. All models feature an R1max of 10 to 25 mΩ. In response to the trend toward smaller and more efficient electronics, TE Circuit Protection will continue to expand its low-resistance SMD portfolio.
