TE Connectivity, a leading division within circuit protection, has introduced a new series of low-resistance surface mount devices (SMD) designed for mobile applications where space is at a premium. These advanced circuit protection components provide both overcurrent and overtemperature protection for battery pack modules in compact consumer electronics like smartphones, MP3/4 players, and portable GPS devices. The new line of low-resistance SMDs is tailored to meet the growing demand for flexible, cost-effective, and power-efficient solutions in the fast-evolving mobile market, making them ideal for modern, space-constrained designs.
The devices are available in industry-standard form factors including 1210 (3.0mm × 2.54mm), 1206 (3.0mm × 1.52mm), and 1812 (3.0mm × 4.57mm). These compact sizes allow manufacturers to optimize board space while maintaining high performance. Additionally, the components can be easily assembled using reflow soldering technology, which not only saves space but also reduces manufacturing costs compared to traditional spot welding methods.
With a resistance as low as 10 to 25 mΩ after reflow soldering, these devices help minimize power consumption and improve battery efficiency—key benefits for battery-powered devices. The family includes nine new models capable of handling operating currents of 2A or higher, offering reliable protection without compromising on performance.
"Manufacturers today need versatile and scalable solutions that can adapt to a wide range of product designs," said Xu Zhifeng, Product Manager at TE Circuit Protection. "The new low-resistance SMD series provides just that—flexibility, reliability, and efficiency—making it easier for battery pack suppliers to meet their design goals and streamline installation processes."
The new device models include:
- microSMD190LR-2
- microSMD200LR-2
- microSMD250LR-2
- microSMD350LR-2
- nanoSMD175LR-2
- nanoSMD200LR-2
- nanoSMD270LR-2
- nanoSMD350LR-2
- miniSMDC350LR-2
The prefixes indicate the form factor: "micro" for 1210, "nano" for 1206, and "mini" for 1812. Each model features an R1max of 10 to 25 mΩ, ensuring minimal resistance and optimal performance.
In response to the trend toward smaller and more powerful electronics, TE Circuit Protection will continue to expand its low-resistance SMD family to meet future market needs.
Pricing is available at $0.15 per unit for orders of 100,000 pieces, with delivery expected within 8 weeks of order confirmation.
