What will the output voltage of the power module become lower?

If the input voltage of the circuit is too low, the circuit will be abnormal. Long-term operation at low input voltages can have a significant impact on the life of the circuit. To avoid this problem when designing a circuit, you need to understand why the output voltage of the power module is low.

There are many reasons why the output voltage of the power module is low. The common causes are as follows.

1. The output line is too long or too thin

E2405UHBD-30W Power Module Features:

Input voltage range is 9V~36V;

Output voltage 5V;

The output current is 6A.

Connect the E2405UHBD-30W power module peripheral circuit according to the requirements of the data sheet. The load is fully loaded with the electronic load meter, and the power supply uses a programmable DC power supply. When the module is powered on, the voltage displayed on the electronic load meter is not 5.0V, but 4.7V. However, the voltage across the output pin of the measuring power module is 5.0V. What is the reason? When the E2405UHBD-30W module is fully loaded, the output current is 6A, and the connection line between the module pin and the load meter port is too long, so that the impedance of the connection line is large. If the impedance is 0.05 ohms, the voltage difference on the connection line is 0.05Ω*6A=0.3V, which is the voltage difference between the module output pin and the load meter port.

2. Input anti-reverse diode diode voltage drop is too large

ZY1205FKES-3W power module features:

Input voltage 12V, ±10% fluctuation range;

Output voltage 5V, output unregulated

The output current is 600mA.

Applicable to applications where the input voltage waveform range is less than 10% and the voltage accuracy is not critical.

The output voltage of the AC-DC power module is 12V, and the maximum output voltage accuracy is ±3%. The output voltage range is 11.64V~12.36V. The diode D1 uses 1N4148, the forward voltage drop is 0.7V, then the actual input voltage range of the ZY1205FKES-3W module is only 10.94V~11.66V. This voltage range is still within the input voltage range of the ZY1205FKES-3W module. Normal operation, only the output voltage will be lower.

In the past, some customers also had the above situation. At that time, the measured output voltage of ZY1205FKES-3W was 4.65V. The customer wanted the output voltage to be higher. We gave two suggestions:

(1) The customer replaces an anti-reverse diode with a small forward voltage drop;

(2) Adjust the output voltage of the AC-DC power supply module a little higher.

(3) If the voltage accuracy is high, it is recommended to replace the ZY1205FKES-3W with the ZY1205WRBCS-3W wide voltage input regulated output module.

3. Output overload

Take the E0505FKS-1W product as an example to output the overload condition.

E0505FKS-1W power module features:

Input voltage 5V, ±10% fluctuation range;

The output voltage is 5V, and the output is not regulated.

Output current 200mA, sustainable short circuit protection.

When the E0505FKS-1W module has a load current of 200mA, the output voltage is 4.82V. When the load current increases to 300mA, the output voltage is only 4.5V. The 300mA load current allows the E0505FKS-1W module to operate in an overload condition, and long-term overload can affect the life of the module. In this case, we can only switch to a power module with a larger output power, such as the E0505FKS-2W.

The power modules of the above three different characteristics simply explain the reason why the output voltage of the three power modules is low, but in practical applications, there are many reasons for the low output voltage of the module. In this case, first check the voltage value across the input and output pins of the module. If the input and output voltages are normal, check the load current.
