Power Integrations Introduces Compact, Efficient SCALE-iDriverTM IC Family Supporting 1700 V IGBTs

The leader in IGBT and MOSFET driver technology for medium and high voltage inverter applications has expanded its SCALE-iDriver™ family of electromagnetically isolated single-channel gate driver ICs. The newly introduced 1700VSCALE-iDriver supports IGBTs with a withstand voltage of up to 1700V and is ideal for applications ranging from 400VAC to 690VAC. It also suits the latest three-level topological PV inverters and photovoltaic arrays that follow the new 1500V DC bus standard. This expansion enables OEMs to use a consistent, highly integrated, secure, and reliable drive solution across various applications. The 1700VSCALE-iDriver IC can drive both IGBTs and MOSFETs, combining Power Integrations’ first FluxLink™ magnetic two-way communication technology with its SCALE® power device driver technology. FluxLink eliminates the need for traditional optoelectronic devices and their associated compensation circuits, improving system reliability while reducing complexity. SCALE technology integrates essential gate driver functions into an ASIC, simplifying design and minimizing size and failure risks. The innovative eSOP package offers a creepage distance of over 9.5mm and a CTI (Comparative Tracking Index) of 600, ensuring higher voltage margins and improved system reliability. The 1700VSCALE-iDriver operates within a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and supports a maximum switching frequency of 75kHz. It meets the upcoming IEC60747-17 and VDE0884-17 standards. The device includes Advanced Soft-Shutdown (ASSD), offering reliable and easy-to-implement desaturation (short circuit) protection for power switching devices. With an external push stage, it can support up to 30A of gate current and inverters above 400kW. The 1700VSCALE-iDriver is ideal for industrial drives, power/UPS systems, PV inverters of all sizes, industrial HVAC, EV charging stations, traction equipment, and commercial electric vehicles.
