Molex, a leading global provider of electronic components, has expanded its EdgeLine product portfolio with the introduction of new high-speed edge card connectors. These low-profile, single-piece connectors are designed for data rates up to 25 Gbps, offering excellent signal integrity and performance. The latest additions to the EdgeLine family provide cost-effective, flexible, and scalable solutions ideal for applications in communications, computing, and storage.
At DesignCon 2014 in Santa Clara, California, from January 29 to 30, Molex will showcase these high-speed edge card connectors along with other EdgeLine products. Adam Stanczak, Product Development Manager at Molex, stated, "As systems grow more complex, customers require higher data rates, superior signal clarity, and compact connectivity solutions that fit within limited board space. The new EdgeLine connectors deliver a reliable, high-speed option while maintaining design flexibility and minimal PCB footprint."
These connectors support PCB thicknesses ranging from 1.57 mm to 3.18 mm, making them suitable for a wide range of complex designs. Available in various circuit sizes, they offer greater flexibility in signal and power distribution. The low-side height design enhances airflow and thermal management, which is crucial for high-performance systems.
Key features include:
- A press-fit, pin-compatible terminal design for easy board termination using flat-head tools or SMT patches, enabling higher speed performance.
- Cost-effective slotted terminals that can be customized for different signal and power requirements.
- Flexible ground options, either shared or single, supporting power, low-speed signals, and high-speed differential circuits.
- Centered keying on some circuit sizes improves PCB alignment during patching, ensuring accurate connections.
The 0.80mm pitch CoEdge connector includes keying and locking mechanisms for secure assembly and improved board alignment. A secondary locking feature prevents accidental disconnection and ensures the PCB remains securely attached to the connector.
With their advanced design and versatility, Molex's EdgeLine connectors are well-suited for next-generation electronics where performance, reliability, and space efficiency are critical.
