Seoul Semiconductor begins mass production of its patented filament LED

Seoul Semiconductor, the global leader in LED technology, today announced the mass production of its filament LEDs for LED bulbs. According to the current global market, it is estimated to be $1.3 billion.

Mr. Ki-bum Nam, Chief Technology Officer of Seoul Semiconductor, said: "With the company's strong patented technology, Seoul Semiconductor will continue to increase its share of the filament LED bulb market, which is a blue ocean market, estimated at $1.3 billion." He added: "We will widely publicize the advantages of Seoul Semiconductor's LED technology and its filament LED.

Seoul Semiconductor Filament LEDs can achieve high-quality light color close to natural light through differential chip (COB) packaging technology, and can be applied to emotional lighting using omnidirectional emission technology, featuring small footprint and wide beam angle. The color rendering index (CRI) is 80% high and the LEDs can be used between 105 and 210 lumens. The color temperature is 2,700K. Therefore, they are often used in high quality lighting environments.

The technology developed by Seoul Semiconductor has been implemented since the beginning of the 21st century, even before the filament LED market, but production continues until the market is ready for them. This decision shows that the company has defined its long-term strategy and vision.

At present, Seoul Semiconductor has hundreds of filament LED patents covering chip manufacturing, COB packaging, module and bulb manufacturing processes. These are the core technologies for the manufacture of filament LED products that provide strong IP protection for Seoul Semiconductor Filament LED customers.

An official at Seoul Semiconductor said: "We are prepared to take legal measures because many LED bulbs found on the market have infringed our proprietary technology.

The global bulb market is estimated to be 7 billion pieces per year, of which 2.5 billion are for various decorative purposes and the other is solved by filament LEDs. Their application in this market has begun, they can be applied not only to various forms of spherical bulbs, but also to special shaped candle lamps. These different applications are supported by two LEDs of different lengths: 38mm and 50mm.
