Hitachi, Ltd. (Hitachi) has introduced an AI-powered sales system designed to enhance the efficiency of commodity invoicing management. What sets this system apart is its ability to operate without requiring prior data input related to product transactions. Instead, the AI learns and improves on its own through continuous self-study, helping businesses streamline their invoicing processes and accelerate transaction speeds. The system is particularly targeted at companies aiming to refine their inventory management practices.
Compared to traditional manual order processing, Hitachi's AI sales system can cut down losses from overstocking or stockouts by up to 75%. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the system, Hitachi used a beer production scenario as a test case. In the four stages—brewery, wholesale, retail, and distribution—the AI helps stabilize beer inventory levels, reducing operational losses caused by supply-demand imbalances.

Unlike conventional AI systems that require large datasets for training, Hitachi’s AI leverages data generated by AI agents within the system itself. These agents engage in competitive learning, constantly testing, observing, and improving their strategies. Each agent goes through repeated cycles of trial, observation, and learning, refining their approaches to optimize invoicing and reduce business losses. This competition fosters a dynamic environment where agents continuously learn from one another.
When an AI agent produces a model that leads to significant losses, it adjusts its strategy until the issue is resolved. Additionally, the system evaluates the performance of each agent and discards those that underperform, replacing them with new, improved versions. This self-improving mechanism allows the AI sales system to optimize the entire supply and demand network without the need for additional data input.
This approach mirrors the self-play methodology used by AlphaGo Zero, which outperformed its predecessor, AlphaGo, by learning entirely on its own. By enabling AI to compete and evolve autonomously, Hitachi’s system demonstrates a powerful new direction in intelligent automation, offering businesses a more efficient and adaptive solution for managing complex operations.
