Sanya promotes rural household roof photovoltaic project construction "green road to wealth"

Sanya has fully leveraged its abundant sunshine hours by implementing photovoltaic power generation projects, aiming to boost farmers' income while promoting energy conservation and emission reduction. On the afternoon of January 5th, the 21st executive meeting of the Sanya municipal government reviewed and approved the "Implementation Plan for Promoting the Construction of Rural Household Rooftop Photovoltaic Projects in Sanya City." The plan sets a goal to achieve full coverage of rooftop photovoltaic projects across 92 village committees and farms that have completed localized management, targeting households that meet construction requirements by 2020. [Image: A photo showing rural rooftops equipped with solar panels] The initiative aims to integrate the development of a beautiful countryside with the continuous expansion of photovoltaic power generation in rural areas. By promoting the construction of these projects, the city seeks to increase farmers’ income, accelerate the adoption of solar energy in homes, and encourage both village collectives and individual households to build rooftop photovoltaic systems. This effort is expected to help narrow the income gap between urban and rural residents, creating a "green path to wealth." To achieve this, Sanya plans to adopt three different construction models. The first is the self-investment model, where rural residents fund and own the project themselves. The second involves cooperative investment between enterprises and local residents, with profits shared according to the terms of their agreement. The third model is enterprise-led investment, where the enterprise owns the project and provides a certain amount of subsidies to the rural residents as stipulated in the contract. According to reports, the city’s 60,000 photovoltaic projects are expected to generate approximately 240 million kWh annually, reducing carbon emissions by about 168,000 metric tons. Over 20 years, the total projected electricity output would reach 4.8 billion kWh, cutting carbon emissions by around 3.36 million metric tons. These benefits are significant and demonstrate the long-term value of the initiative. Moreover, the photovoltaic projects will be designed to harmonize with existing roofs and building facades, ensuring they blend well with the surrounding environment. This approach not only supports sustainable development but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of rural areas, making rooftop solar installations a beautiful part of Sanya's landscape.
