June 22, 2016, the world's leading high-performance analog IC and a semiconductor sensor supplier Ai Maisi (ams AG) introduced an industry-leading digital temperature sensor, a small package and high precision and low power consumption.

At 4 samples per second, the typical current of the AS6200 in a 1.6mm x 1mm package is 6μA, and its digital measurement output is accurate to ±0.4°C.

The factory calibrates the functions required by the AS6200 integrated in a single chip for temperature sensing systems, so users can easily design the sensor into space-constrained or battery-powered products.

The device consists of a silicon bandgap sensor, an analog to digital converter, a digital signal processor, and a serial I2C interface. The DSP on the chip can perform all linearization calibrations and produce a 12-bit (0.0625°C resolution) binary output.

Although the AS6200 has a high level of integration, it consumes very little current. In the 1.8V-3.6V operating range, the AS6200 consumes only 1.5μA when sampling once per second. The conversion rate can be set between 0.25-8 Hz. At lower conversion frequencies, the power consumption of the sensor is also lower. In standby mode, all chip functions except the serial interface will be turned off, so only 0.1μA (typ) is consumed.

With its smaller size and lower power consumption, the AS6200 offers new opportunities for battery-powered, mobile and wearable product manufacturers to add digital temperature sensing to new product designs without consideration Factors that affect power consumption and space constraints. The use of the AS6200 helps save space and power, so industrial and IoT applications such as industrial process control, cold chain monitoring, and design will also be improved.

Christian Feierl Ai Maisi semiconductor market manager: "In the semiconductor Ai Maisi proprietary low power, high sensitivity support simulation process, the factory calibration AS6200 reflects industry leading integrated features, with high accuracy (± 0.4 ° C, the maximum value in the range of 0 °C-65 °C), low power consumption, small size (1.6 mm2)."

The sensor's I2C interface allows two devices to be connected to the same bus. The sensor also has a PIN code that can be dedicated to the alarm function. When the measured temperature exceeds the maximum or minimum temperature threshold set by the user, the interrupt signal in the main microcontroller will be triggered.

The AS6200 is about to be put into mass production. Product evaluation boards are available from Amers Semiconductor's ICdirect online store.

In addition, Amers Semiconductor will showcase the AS6200 at the Sensor Expo in San Jose, USA on June 21-23, booth number 1016.
