Instructions for the Building Materials Flammability Tester
1. Structure and Installation
The flammability tester is composed of several key components, including a combustion chamber, a burner, a test stand, and a pressure regulating valve. A propane tank is also included to provide fuel for the testing process.
Before installation, make sure all parts are present and in good condition. According to the diagram provided (Figure 1), place the base inside the box and install the fixing sleeve, sample holder, and other necessary components as shown. Position the burner in front of the specimen, and secure it by screwing the burner rod through the outer casing into the burner base.
Connect the propane meter to the liquefied gas tank, then use a plastic tube to link the other end of the propane meter to the pressure regulating valve. Finally, connect the pressure regulating valve to the burner using a pneumatic tube. Ensure all connections are tight and secure to prevent gas leaks during operation.
2. Test Operation
Step 1: Use an appropriate ignition device and place it on top of the burner.
Step 2: Insert the test sample into the sample holder and hang it properly to ensure stability during the test.
Step 3: Once the burner is positioned close to the sample, lock the ruler on the bottom plate to maintain the correct distance as required by the standard.
Step 4: Place a piece of filter paper in an aluminum foil tray and position it under the test sample to collect any falling debris or residue.
Step 5: Raise the burner slightly, open the pressure regulating valve, and ignite the nozzle using an electronic igniter. Adjust the flame length to approximately 20mm. Tilt the burner at a 45-degree angle and ignite the sample according to the specified distance outlined in the testing standard.
3. Safety and Precautions
Before lighting the burner, adjust the pneumatic control valve first, then gradually regulate the pressure using the knob. After ignition, you can fine-tune the flame size using either the pressure regulator knob or the pneumatic adjustment valve for better control.
Ensure that the liquefied gas tank and the burner are kept at a safe distance before ignition to avoid any potential hazards.
During the test, the smoke generated inside the chamber should be vented outside through the exhaust hood to maintain a safe working environment and prevent inhalation of harmful fumes.
Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and safety protocols when operating the flammability tester. Regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment are recommended to ensure accurate and reliable results over time.
