Austriamicrosystems launches intelligent lighting manager with integrated sensors

China, January 26, 2015 – Austrian Microelectronics (SIX: AMS) , a leading provider of high-performance analog ICs and sensors, today introduced the revolutionary AS721x automatic daylight harvesting manager, the industry's first integrated and Chip-level intelligent lighting manager based on IoT connection. This new sensor-integrated intelligent lighting manager solution brings a low-cost, integrated control of IoT connectivity to lighting, lighting and backup lamp manufacturers.

The AS721x family integrates ambient light sensors consisting of nano-optical filters to help lighting manufacturers address increasingly stringent regulatory requirements in lighting energy efficiency such as daylight control. Introducing control, connectivity (such as Bluetooth) and high-resolution sensors into the lighting device itself is a more cost-effective solution.

Intelligent daylight manager

Sajol Ghoshal, head of the Austrian Microelectronics Emerging Sensors Strategy Division, said: "The AS721x family of intelligent lighting sensor solutions form a natural IoT sensor center inside intelligent buildings. Through IoT connectivity and integrated sensors, lighting is network-aware. Implementing the Internet of AwarenessTM. Combining Broadcom's innovative and easy-to-use WICEDTM smart Bluetooth and smart bridge platform, the AS721x product line provides a secure, plug-and-play for big data integration and predictable machine learning waves. IoT solutions used."

AS7210

The AS721x family of products is the platform technology of the first integrated sensor solution from austriamicrosystems, providing system-level sensing and control functions that significantly reduce system cost and time to market. The AS721x Automatic Daylight Harvesting Manager senses ambient light and continuously adjusts the amount of light in the space as the ambient light changes. Integrating a sensor-based manager in each lighting device will optimize the overall responsiveness and efficiency of the lighting system, maximizing energy savings. This method enables the luminaire to adjust the output over time and temperature to maintain a constant brightness of the environment and to enable the fully connected lighting system to respond to building or space commands and control methods.

AS7211

Sid Shaw, senior product manager for wireless connectivity at Broadcom, said: "Austriamicrosystems' breakthrough sensor-integrated manager product line meets the lighting industry's strong demand for integrated control technology and effectively saves cost and space. Ubiquitous and based on standard BT-based smart connectivity, this solution will really revolutionize the lighting industry, and this network-connected system approach further confirms the enormous potential of the Internet of Things.

Competing brand-separated solutions require separate components such as sensors, processors, memory, and I/O chips that require design, integration, and time-consuming control and communication algorithm programming while taking up a lot of space. In contrast, the AS721x family includes a complete, integrated solution that provides users with a highly integrated, lower-cost, and simpler method than using separate components.

AS7221

The Austrian Microelectronics AS721x Automatic Daylight Harvesting Manager also includes the following features:

· 20-pin 2.1 x 2.3 mm chip size package and 4.5 x 4.7 mm flat network array package available

· Daylight sensor for precise ambient light sensing and control

· Integrated industry standard 0-10v control, running 0-10v and multi-channel PWM output

· Standard serial UART (AS7211) can be extended for any standard network, and AS7210 can be extended for integrated infrared remote control decoding

· Network-based architecture for high-level, driverless smart lighting commands for IoT connectivity via Bluetooth 4.x, ZigBee, WiFi, Ethernet/PoE or other networks

· I2C sensor extension for illumination-based sensor bridging

Some customers of austriamicrosystems are testing the performance of the AS721x automatic daylight harvesting manager sample in their products and expect the finished product to be commissioned in the third quarter of 2015.
