Spansion Releases First Automotive Power Management IC

Beijing, China, March 4, 2015 – Spansion, Inc. (NYSE: CODE), the world's leading provider of embedded system solutions, today unveiled its first automotive-grade 6-channel power management integration for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) Circuit products. As an energy-efficient, multi-channel power management solution, the product features control pins for each voltage channel, precision voltage integrity monitor and windowed watchdog timer to reduce system development for ADAS implementations. Heat, complexity and solution costs. This product line also supports Class B Automotive Safety Integrity (ASIL-B)*1, which is currently available for sample trials.

Spansion Releases First Automotive Power Management IC

Kiyoe Nagaya, vice president of analog product marketing at Spansion, said: "This new product line expands our product portfolio and brings our automotive power products to the system level. Spansion has extensive experience in supplying flash memory and MCU products to ADAS. We are proud to have added Power Management ICs as our newest product. This product was successfully developed in partnership with a major automotive customer."

The Spansion S6BP401A series is a power integrated circuit product for ADAS. As a single-chip solution, it has 6 channels of power output, including a 4-channel DC/DC converter and a 2-channel low-dropout linear stabilizer (LDO). The S6BP401A family integrates output-set impedance and phase compensation circuitry for all channels, reduces printed circuit board size, and reduces bill of materials, helping to achieve smaller and more cost-effective ADAS systems. This family of devices is also equipped with a built-in windowed watchdog timer, separate pins that turn each channel on/off, and dedicated pins to monitor the power integrity of each channel. These features ensure the system's high reliability and meet Class B Automotive Safety Integrity (ASIL-B) standards. Each output level can be adapted to a variety of system requirements, and each voltage level can be set according to customer specifications before shipment.

According to IHS, global sales of ADAS chips are expected to reach $2.6 billion in 2020, four times the size of the market in 2010.

Takahiko Komada, deputy manager of Techno Systems Research Ltd., said: "Today's automotive products require advanced and complex functional safety. The automotive sensing system market, including ADAS, is expected to continue to expand, under the influence of the newly established regulations of the European Union. By 2020, we will expand by a factor of four in 2014. In order to implement the ADAS solution in a variety of models in the future, we must reduce system costs while maintaining or improving the security of system features and functions. The S6BP401A product integrates all power channels for the ADAS system and reduces the number of external components while maintaining a high level of safety functionality, making it an ideal solution for implementing such small ADAS systems."

Main features of Spansion S6BP401A products:

· 6-channel PMIC: 4-channel DC/DC converter (factory default output voltage), 2-channel LDO (factory preset output voltage), and phase compensation circuitry for each channel are integrated into a 6x6mm single QFN40 molded case package. The S6BP401A supplies all power channels to the ADAS, reducing PCB area and bill of materials.

· Functional safety: The S6BP401A is equipped with separate control pins for each channel. This product also features these pins for controlling the output voltage integrity of each channel. These pins and built-in watchdog timers help users create a system that ensures functional safety with a level of safety that meets the ASIL-B standard. In addition, the S6BP401A comes with a number of security assurance features.

· Current supply capability: The S6BP401A is capable of supplying the large current (maximum: 3A/channel) required for the high-power SoC and DDR built into the ADAS system.

Availability and pricing:

The Spansion S6BP401A multi-channel PMIC for the ADAS system is available in a 40-pin QFN package for sample testing. The sample price is $13.
