NVIDIA's quarterly net profit of 150 million US dollars turned profitable

NVIDIA’s financial report released today showed that its net profit in the second quarter of fiscal year 2012 was US$150 million, which was a year-on-year gain, and it also increased compared to the first quarter.

As of July 31, NVIDIA’s total revenue was US$1.017 billion, a significant increase of 25.3% from US$811.2 million in the same period of last year, and an increase of 5.7% compared to US$962 million in the previous quarter.

According to the US General Accounting Principles (GAAP), NVIDIA’s net profit for the second quarter was US$151.6 million, and the diluted earnings per share was US$0.25, including the impact of a 2 cents per share loss due to the acquisition of Icera. In the first quarter of this year, NVIDIA's net profit was $135.2 million, and earnings per share was 0.22 cents. In the second quarter of last year, it was a loss of $141 million, or $0.25 per share.

NVIDIA's quarterly gross profit margin was 51.7%, which was the fourth quarter of consecutive year to create a new high, an increase of 1.3 percentage points from the previous quarter, an increase of 35.1 percentage points year-on-year.

NVIDIA expects revenue growth of 4-6% QoQ in the third quarter of fiscal 2012, with GAAP gross margins remaining flat with operating expenses of $3.61-3.66 billion.

After the financial report was released, NVIDIA shares rose 1.07 US dollars in regular trading on the Nasdaq, to ​​close at 13.41 US dollars, or 8.67%, after-hours trading rose again 2.37 US dollars to 15.78 US dollars, an increase of 17.67%.
