IMS expects lower solar inverter market demand in the first half of 2011

According to the IMS market research company, the market for instrumentation and metering: the weak demand in each solar energy key market and the substantial increase in the number of solar inverter inventory will bring a greater impact on the solar inverter market in the second quarter of 2011. In the fourth quarter of 2010, the global PV inverter revenue was US$1.6 billion, a decrease of 24% from the previous quarter, but a 30% increase from the fourth quarter of 2009.

Ash Sharma, Director of Photovoltaic Research at IMS Market Research, said: "The fourth quarter of 2010 was a quarter of bumpy PV inverter shipments. Although there was a shortage of parts, it still achieved a large scale. Shipments have brought brightness to the market in the first half of this year."

The market research company pointed out that the weak demand caused the ex-factory price of the product to drop by 4% in the fourth quarter of last year, although product shipments remained at a relatively high level under the conditions of declining demand and higher inventory levels.

The IMS market research company also pointed out that in Germany, due to the development of markets in Other regions, there will be a weak market situation, although the proportion of EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) in the global PV inverter shipments will remain in 2010. Stable, accounting for more than 80% of the total industry shipments in the year.

Mr. Sharma also stated: "As a result of the development of other international markets, Germany's share of total inverter shipments has continued to decline in the past five quarters. Germany's inverters in the fourth quarter of 2009 Shipments accounted for more than half of the entire industry and fell to 35% in the fourth quarter of 2010."

Although the European market is still very strong, IMS market research companies have pointed out that the reduction of German market share in the inverter market means that German suppliers are also losing their global market share.
