The robot inspired by the bionics of spiders and fruit bats is so cool.

Humans really like to use nature's inspiration to develop various types of robots, and recently the German-based automation company Festo has brought us exciting new results in this field. This time Festo brought two robots, named BionicWheelBot and BionicFlyingFox, which look a bit like the characters in Star Wars.

The design of BionicWheelBot is inspired by the Moroccan back-splashing spider. Unlike ordinary spiders, this spider has a very unusual way of moving, including walking, rolling and rolling. When moving at a slower speed, the 15 motor-driven robots begin to roll forward, bending three of the legs on either side of the body to form a "wheel" and then stretching the other two legs. Push the body and the "wheels" forward. Doing so will keep it moving at high speed on the slope.

Inspired by the bionics of spiders and fruit bats, it’s cool.

Another BionicFlyingFox weighs 580 grams, uses a 3D submerged foam fuselage and a carbon fiber skeleton, and has a 229 cm wingspan, whose wings are made up of an ultra-thin film material. The robot looks like a flying "fruit bat", but actually flies by flapping its wings. The BionicFlyingFox is activated remotely and is completed by an automated driving system with an infrared camera mounted on the retraction and wingtips.

Slightly regrettable, these two robots will not be launched for the commercial market in a short time. “These two projects are still only in the technical demonstration phase, so they will not be used in the real world. They are now somewhat similar to the stage of flying cars,” said Elias Knubben, director of the Festo bionic project. “But we are trying to transfer knowledge to product-related topics during the development of bionic projects, such as how to save energy or lightweight design, so that we can provide our partners with more efficient product solutions.”

Knubben said the company's goal is to showcase the strongest technology and hope to inspire children and young people's interest in science and technology. I have to admit that this bionic robot does have a more vivid educational effect.
