FUJIFILM Fuji X100's Native Partner: WCL-100 Wide Angle Conversion Lens

The reason for writing this article is to see that you have written a TCL-100. Then I think we must make up another Fuji conversion lens. Even the title was changed in that article. Both conversion lenses have their own strengths and their purposes are completely different. It is said that when designing this machine, it started with a 28mm fixed focus lens. Because of the portability (we saw it), the front lens group was truncated and it became 35mm. Therefore, after adding this additional mirror, resolution, glare, reflection, and other indices actually have only slightest impact (if there is no impact, it is deception to deceive itself). Therefore, this lens became a necessary accessory for the X100. The final result did not disappoint me. I just wanted to say it was very good. So the title of this article is called the X100's native partner.

The price of WCL-100 in the country is very high. The following is the purchase link of Jingdong; but the price/performance ratio in its country of origin is much better. Let's take a look at the price of Nichia. The moving people want to cry.

First take a few photos with this lens, adjust the atmosphere

Reasons to purchase

In order to give himself some challenges, a wide-angle add-on lens was added to the X100's 35mm standard mirror and it became 28mm. To tell the truth, I still have confidence in the control of 35mm, but 28mm is a long time. Later, after carefully reviewing the film, 28mm can reflect the sense of perspective in place, but from the composition itself, it seems to feel a little more, no 35mm looks so arbitrary. Of course, it is also related to the viewfinder. The optical viewfinder usually does not have 100% field of vision. It is just a reference. In fact, it is more of a feeling of the frame in the mind. For the familiarity of 35mm, I should know that I can capture what I can do without lifting the camera. If I have 28mm, I feel so bad. The industry is skilled in ah.

With the popularity of contemporary full SLRs, photo enthusiasts seem to feel sorry for themselves if they don't go back to a 5D3 or above. The lens 24 is still not satisfied. Many people began to pursue 16-35 shots. The lens of 24 has been the limit for me. The exaggerated person who can control 16 is extremely gifted. At first, I was fortunate enough to meet the price of "sky" hologon 15mm did not buy the root cause is not expensive, but afraid that they can not control. Such artifacts, if buried in the hands of me and other mortals, will not be violent.

X100 (the current follow-up version has reached the X100T), is still a good machine. If you can tolerate its only drawback (focusing is really slow). Image quality is among the best in the same machine, and I personally particularly like its optical viewfinder. I think there are too many articles on the X100 (series) on the Internet, so I will not repeat them here. Nowadays, except for certain tasks, I usually do not have SLR. The speed of the SLR is still fast, and the image quality (if used properly) is still high. Of course, a 5d2, even if you add a small ternary, plus a flash (the light is still necessary, no matter how large the index, the key time is still very useful, by the way can also engage in creative ideas), a tripod, more than ten pounds or even Dozens of pounds, really is not a travel equipment. Every time I travel with a SLR, I have to decide the Red Army's determination to pass through the snow-capped mountains and meadows. Someone said that you can go without a tripod? As for the vibration of SLR reflectors and shutters like the 5D2, although it wasn't like crying, it wasn't a vegetarian, and the waste rate was still quite high below 1/15 second. (The reason for the vibration of the reflectors is not Safe shutter problem). In contrast, the X100, three hundred and four hundred grams of camera and no anti-, 1/4 second hand-held I was 100 made, and never shaking off the possibility. One additional mirror, with a small tripod, UV plus gray plus gradient, two pounds up and down to completely get on the weight of a bottle of big cola, really leisurely recreation.

WCL's packaging is relatively simple, is a black box, which has sponge protection. The box was thrown because it had been bought for some time. In the box, there are a total of three things, a bag, a lens (with lens cap and bottom cap) plus a manual.

All metal, made in Japan. The Dongyang people's craft is still amazing. In particular, after the camera is screwed on, it is like a native. The lens itself looks relatively transparent, the coating is greenish purple, but it is a kind of lighter one. It was a bit like the early pentax SMC coating, but it was a lot lighter. The original 23mm lens of the machine (converted to 35mm) is exactly the same.

In my case, I used the adapter ring filter (X100 filter is so troublesome), so before installing the WCL-100, I want to remove the adapter ring and filter. Slightly inconvenient

After mounting it is very powerful, it is not as good as the original portability. And the original leather case bought by Madame 400 years ago was retired forcibly.

After you finish loading, don't forget to set the frame in the machine as follows

experience feelings

Let's start with some specifications. Anyway, the official description is basically "lossless." MTF is still pretty pretty

Take a few photos, which are equipped with a conversion mirror and no contrast. You may want to be disappointed to see the value of the resolution test chart. Because I never do such evaluations. If you want to see the difference in resolution, you can go to a professional website (like the dpreview website) and they are definitely more professional than me. I am more to show the actual application.

The following figure is not installed before the conversion mirror. When the article is written, it is too cloudy, so the picture is difficult to see

(ISO 200; -2/3 EV, F8)

After the up conversion mirror

(ISO 200; -2/3 EV, F8)

Obviously you can see that the field of vision has expanded a lot. The one-millimeter gap at the wide-angle end is significantly greater than at the far-end. There is not much difference from color to resolution, or it is impossible to distinguish. Vignette added a conversion mirror is a bit worse, but the difference is not great.

Let's challenge it again. The X100's 35mm lens is well-known for its marginal flesh at close-to-large apertures. What about after adding a conversion mirror?

Before installing the conversion mirror

(ISO 800; 0 EV, F2.8)

After the up conversion mirror

(ISO 800; 0 EV, F2.8)

In fact, for ordinary shooting, the effect of vignetting is greater than the resolution. The overall picture is still acceptable.

After adding the conversion mirror, challenge the F2 extreme aperture at close range.

The resolution is really not good. However, this is an extreme situation. This macro is sent by Fujitsu. The color is still OK. The focus is not on the United States, but it is also good for the 28mm lens. The final conclusion is acceptable. Of course, everyone's needs are different. Some people specialize in scenery and hope that the edge is the same as the center. It is estimated that ByeBye can only be said with such small lenses and small cameras. 135 full scale estimation is also a challenge. Some people shoot art classes, and they have to add vignettes after shooting, so they don't care about the edge resolution. For me, shooting small scenes and humanities is enough, or very good.

What's the difference after adding a lens?

1. First, the focusing speed becomes slower. But don't worry, the focusing speed of the X100 itself is slow. The conversion mirror just slows down a bit. In the absence of conversion, the focus (plus metering) is approximately 0.3-0.6 seconds. After adding the conversion mirror, add about 0.1 seconds. I tried to test with a stopwatch, but I couldn't be precise because of all the manual controls. Slower focus can be felt, but it is not obvious. I believe that people who buy X100 series are not fancy

2. Secondly, sometimes it is not possible to focus in a dark place, especially at a macro time.

3. Again, wide-angle distortion is noticeable when the focus is close.

4. Last but not least, despite the OVF (Optical Viewfinder) correction, the actual display on the optical display is extremely inaccurate, probably only about 85% of the screen shot. Do not tell me that this is used to adjust the EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) because the EVF is WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) and does not need to be adjusted. This point does not know how Fuji thinks, since organic correction, why not correct a little better.

to sum up

After buying the X100 series, is it necessary to buy the WCL-100? I think it is necessary. Of course, if you can get something from the sea, the price is even higher. Because this conversion mirror basically belongs to the original, (according to my comparison, the loss of focus speed image quality will not exceed 5%). And if you think about spending more than 2,000 yuan, you can have more than one F2 28mm fine-grained metal lens. Take a look at the links below. Most of the 2,000 yuan or 28mm lenses are plastic messes. The price of a truly well-crafted metal lens is at least twice that. Of course, it is not fair to simply take the conversion lens and lens ratio. But in fact, good conversion mirrors are not easy to manufacture. This should be regarded as a benefit to Fuji X100 series owners.

And 28mm lens can shoot a lot of things, from the landscape to the humanities can be. You can also exercise yourself to transition from a standard perspective to a wide-angle perspective. I believe that at the beginning, we picked up the 24mm lens and many people cannot master it.

advantage:

The lens is relatively small and the workmanship is excellent. Perfect match with the original body

The loss of picture quality and sub-rate is very small and can basically be ignored

Full body support (except for OVF correction is not allowed)

Disadvantages:

Something slows down in the dark

Close-range focus will have wide-angle distortion (some people say X100t organic correction, my X100 does not)

If it is the price of the Bank of China, the price/performance ratio is not so high.
