China can produce its own LED backlight
——Interview with Yao Zhiguo, Chairman of Weizhi Optoelectronics (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.
      The sudden hot sale of LED backlight LCD TVs has also stimulated the upstream companies' investment in LED backlight technology. Recently, at the color TV industry research conference held by Aowei Consulting, the author interviewed Yao Zhiguo, the chairman of Weizhi Optoelectronics (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., the largest and the first in China to be engaged in the research and development and mass production of color TV LED backlight technology. Together with him, he shared the technical advantages and price advantages that China's color TV enterprises have in the LED TV market competition.
      Author: Yao Zong, can you briefly introduce the situation of Weizhi Optoelectronics?
      Yao Zhiguo: We were established in Hong Kong in 1985. We entered the Shenzhen market in the early 1990s and specialized in the design and manufacture of LEDs. It can be said that we are the earliest enterprise engaged in the research and development of LED backlight technology and related products in China. The current products are mainly used in industrial and consumer electronic products. Previously, our business was mainly focused on lighting and mobile phones, and this year we entered the color TV industry.
      At present, we have formed an industrial supporting system integrating design, LED packaging, injection molding and assembly.
      Author: Why did you want to enter the LED backlight field?
      Yao Zhiguo: Compared with CCFL backlights, LEDs have many features and energy saving, which can reduce energy consumption by 50%. Environmentally friendly, the product does not contain mercury. Health can prevent the radiation source from radiating to the eyes. This is a very promising industry. I believe that in the next five years, LCD TV will inevitably enter the LED era from the CCFL era.
      Author: At present, the LCD panels of domestic enterprises are mainly purchased from Japan and South Korea and Taiwan in China. Then with the rapid popularization of LED TVs, can domestic enterprises break through the above bottleneck restrictions in the supply of LED backlights?
      Yao Zhiguo: As far as the strength and technical reserves of Weizhi are concerned, domestic enterprises have sufficient right to speak on LED backlights. At present, we have broken through the bottleneck of LED chips and solved the problems of manufacturing and heat dissipation technologies. As the market expands the demand for LED products, we also have sufficient supply matching capabilities.
      Author: Can you tell us about the current cooperation between Weizhi and other domestic enterprises? At the same time, what cooperation methods have been adopted?
      Yao Zhiguo: At present, we have started pre-production test with TCL, Skyworth, Hisense and other companies. Previously, the LED backlights used by these companies were imported from Korea and Taiwan. In the future, we can provide products such as LED backlights for enterprises, and can also cooperate with the company's LCD module factory. There are many ways to support the strength of domestic enterprises.
      Author: Compared with foreign LED backlights, where are your advantages?
      Yao Zhiguo: First of all, our technical level is the same. This year we also introduced a side-entry multi-block driven LED backlight technology, which can achieve the integration of the two side-in and the direct-down technology advantages, thinner and more Energy saving and brighter colors. At the same time, our prices are about 30% lower than foreign investment. The most important thing is that we can also provide local companies, provide fast response services and stable supply channels.
