Modern securities analyst Kim Don-won said Samsung and LG plan to launch a collapsible smartphone in 2017. 2017 will be the first year of a collapsible smartphone. After the launch of Korean companies, other global competitors such as Apple and Google may launch their own versions in 2018.
Analysts say the introduction of folding phones offers these companies some leverage to shake the saturated smartphone market. The analyst believes that Samsung and LG display departments are likely to start producing the sixth generation of flexible OLED panels.
Samsung Mobile Chief Koh Dong-jin said before that Samsung is already developing a collapsible smartphone. If the test proves that it meets market expectations, then the phone should be mass-produced.
