The LM-80 test in the ENERGY STAR solid-state lighting standard has been approved for implementation

The LM-80 is an important standard for solid-state lighting life and light decay. On September 16, 2008, the American Lighting Engineering Society (IES) committee responsible for developing the LM-80 voted to pass the solid-state lighting product light decay test procedure and submitted it to the IES board for the final result.
The LM-80 is an important part of the Energy Star solid-state lighting standard developed by the DOE and was originally scheduled to take effect on September 30, 2008. However, according to LEDs Magazine, the extension of the final approval of the LM-80 will delay the effective date of the ENERGY STAR solid-state lighting standard.
According to a letter from a person in charge of DOE Energy Star, once the IES Board of Directors approves the LM-80 procedure, the DOE will immediately confirm the notification to the shareholders. According to the IES schedule, the final result will be officially released on September 30. If there are other situations, it may take more time.
The person in charge also revealed that only the manufacturers that signed the ENERGY STAR cooperation agreement for the solid-state lighting project will be qualified for quality certification and can label the products on their products.
