Three major telecom operators earn more than 400 million yuan a day: data traffic surges

Data traffic surges, voice and text messages plummet

As China Unicom delivered last year's transcripts, the three major telecom operators' responses this year have surfaced. The three companies made a total net profit of 151.3 billion yuan, and received about 414 million yuan every day. Of course, China Mobile still holds the bulk.

Compared with the two big brothers, China Unicom's harvest last year was pretty good. The company's operating revenue last year was 248.93 billion yuan, an increase of 19% year-on-year; its net profit was 7.1 billion yuan, an increase of 68.5% year-on-year, which was the highest among the three in terms of net profit growth. The net profits of China Mobile and China Telecom in this year were 129.3 billion yuan and 14.925 billion yuan respectively, and the three companies totaled about 151.3 billion yuan. However, China Mobile's net profit growth was the lowest in nearly three years, and China Telecom was the only company whose net profit declined.

However, in another venue, 3G users, the three can be said to be equally divided. By the end of last year, China Unicom had a net increase of 3,643,700 3G subscribers for a total of 76.456 million subscribers; China Telecom had a net increase of 32.76 million 3G subscribers to 69.05 million subscribers; while China Mobile's 3G subscribers had a net increase of 36.72 million subscribers The total number reached 87.93 million households.

There is another data that is interesting. The annual reports of the three major operators revealed that data traffic is in an explosive growth. China Unicom's annual mobile data traffic increased by 92.0% year-on-year; China Telecom's total mobile Internet traffic increased by approximately two times; and China Mobile's data traffic increased by 187.6% over the previous year.

The other side of the coin is the decline in traditional services such as voice and SMS. China Unicom pointed out that its GSM business revenue decreased by 6% year-on-year, mainly due to the decline in traditional services such as voice and SMS. In the data business segment of China Mobile, the proportion of SMS and MMS has dropped to 26.6% last year. Mobile Internet communication tools, led by WeChat, are taking away operators' territory. Recently, executives of operators have also admitted that WeChat has impacted on the income of value-added services such as SMS.
