Precautions that must be known in LED applications

LED has a unique advantage, but LED is a fragile semiconductor product, so we must be extra careful when using LED products , and now we will summarize some LED usage precautions, please pay attention to it in the process of use.

(1) Should be powered by DC power

Some manufacturers use the "resistance-resistance and step-down" method to supply power to LED products in order to reduce the cost of products, which will directly affect the life of LED products. Using a dedicated switching power supply (preferably a constant current source) to power the LED products will not affect the life of the product, but the product cost is relatively high.

(2) Antistatic measures must be taken

LED products must adopt certain anti-static measures in the process of processing and production, such as: workbench should be grounded, workers should wear anti-static clothing, with anti-static ring, and with anti-static gloves, etc., can be installed with anti-static ions The fan should also ensure that the humidity in the workshop is about 65%, so as to prevent the air from being too dry to generate static electricity, especially the green LED is relatively easy to be damaged by static electricity. In addition, the antistatic ability of LEDs of different quality grades is also different, and the antistatic ability of LEDs with higher quality grades is stronger. There may be a lot of friends who don't know much about static electricity. I will introduce the knowledge of static electricity in detail here: the essence of static electricity is the existence of residual charge. Charge is all the physical quantity related to the nature of electrostatic phenomena. English is called ESD.

The quantities related to potential, electric field, current, etc. are physical quantities due to the presence of charge or the movement of charge. A lot of static problems are caused by people's lack of ESD awareness, and even now many people suspect that ESD will cause damage to electronic products. This is because most ESD damages occur below human perception because the human body's perceived voltage for electrostatic discharge is about 3KV, and many electronic components can be damaged at hundreds of volts or even tens of volts, usually after the electronic device is damaged by ESD. There are no obvious boundaries. After the components are mounted on the PCB and then tested, there are many problems and the analysis is quite difficult. Especially the potential damage, that is, it is difficult to measure the performance of the instrument with the use of precision instruments, so most electronic engineers and designers are skeptical about ESD, but in recent years, experiments have confirmed that this potential damage after a certain period of time, electronic products Reliability has dropped significantly. (three) LED temperature

It should be noted that the increase of temperature will make the internal resistance of the LED become smaller. When the external ambient temperature rises, the internal resistance of the LED light source will decrease. If the power supply is used, the operating current of the LED will increase, and when it exceeds its rated working current. Will affect the service life of LED products, and will seriously cause the LED light source to "burn out". Therefore, it is best to use a constant current source to ensure that the operating current of the LED is not affected by the external temperature. LED temperature is also the most important factor affecting LED life. Please pay attention.

(4) Sealing of LED products

No matter what LED products are used, as long as they are applied outdoors, they are faced with waterproof and moisture-proof sealing problems. If not handled well, it will directly affect the service life of LED products. Nowadays, a small number of manufacturers who have higher requirements for product quality use traditional epoxy resin "watering" methods to seal LED products. This method is troublesome to operate and is not very suitable for larger LED products. Causes the weight of the product to increase.

(5) The current of the LED cannot exceed the IF current of the LED

Over-current work will cause the LED life to drop quickly. If it is over, the LED will burn out immediately.

(6) LED folding angles must be noted

When the LED is bent or chamfered, please do not be too close to the gel. Keep the distance between the gel and the gel for more than 2mm. Otherwise, the bracket inside the LED colloid should be separated from the gold wire. The folding angle should not exceed three times in the same place. 90°, then return to the original position for 1 time.

(7) Welding temperature

The soldering temperature is around 260 °C, the time is controlled within 5S, the soldering point is 2.5mm or more from the bottom of the gel. The soldering iron must be grounded, and the LED is not allowed to be soldered.
