Qualcomm and Ximmerse Collaborate to Launch VR Acceleration Plan

Qualcomm launched the first VR all-in-one reference design VR820 in 2016, based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Follow-up Qualcomm and Google have also cooperated to launch a VR-based solution with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor as the core. In order to further accelerate the layout of Qualcomm's all-in-one, Qualcomm added three new partners to the recently launched HMD Accelerator Program (HAP).

The newly announced three partners are the core component suppliers of Qualcomm HMD Accelerator Program (HAP), which will help VR equipment manufacturers rapidly develop advanced independent VR HMDs. It is understood that they are Ximmerse (Guangzhou), Bosch Sensortec and OmniVision. Qualcomm said that HAP goes beyond a simple prototype device and provides a detailed reference design that allows manufacturers to apply their own customization while taking full advantage of Qualcomm's VR engineering, design, and experience to minimize hardware and software compatibility issues and the key Component verification.

Ximmerse builds a high-precision, drift-free, low-latency 3DoF controller for VR applications. Bosch Sensortec has a BMX055 Absolute Orientation Sensor. Sensor components include accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers that provide "accurate and high-frequency inertial measurements," meaning more accurate and lower-latency motion tracking. OmniVision integrates the OV9282, a 1MP high-speed shutter image sensor that can be used for feature tracking.

Qualcomm’s three new partners’ products will be used by companies participating in the HAP program.
