User profile

Transneft is a Russian oil transport conglomerate and Russia's largest long-distance pipeline operator, managing the longest oil pipelines in the world. Its controlled long-distance pipelines extending from Siberia to the Baltic Sea total more than 48,000 miles (nearly 80,000 kilometers) of pipelines requiring the delivery of 420 million tons/year of crude oil delivery under harsh natural conditions.

ICONICS software deployment

The system uses ICONICS' industrial automation and informatization solutions, including graphical development components, data management modules, and alarm management components to implement its monitoring functions. The products span three generations of V8, V9 and V10 software. This series of software tools runs on more than 500 computers in the network, monitoring data points more than 800,000 points (800,000). This is the world's largest SCADA dispatch and command system based on the Windows platform. This project also won Microsoft's "Windows World Open" award.

Monitoring range

The SCADA system has a redundant architecture and is implemented by more than 500 engineers of the integrator Elesy. Elesy mainly provides custom development and implementation of process control systems for fuel and energy companies. The entire software system monitors 2,100 PLC control systems in operation. The control range includes production facilities and equipment for 400 pump stations, more than 1,000 oil storage tanks and ancillary facilities for 101 oil storage bases, and production of 35 refineries. As well as transportation, these facilities provide daily supplies of oil products for Russia, Europe, and China.

The SCADA system was deployed to monitor all long-distance pipeline systems and other oil production facilities in Russia, delivering 99.5% of Russia's oil. The monitoring object includes all pipelines, pumping stations, oil refineries, oil storage bases, and more than 500 computers of the dispatching system using Microsoft's operating system, through the radio, communication lines, 22 satellite links, etc., using the standard TCP/IP protocol. The method completes the collection and transmission of more than 800,000 digital quantities and analog quantities. At any time, the operation of the pipeline through 2100 control interfaces and receiving feedback can be completed in 3-5 seconds.

Application effect

Through the deployment and use of ICONICS' SCADA system, users realized the timely detection of crude oil leakage. The dispatch center can timely formulate repair plans and guide repair work, avoiding accidents and reducing economic losses.

The close cooperation between ICONICS and Elesy in Russia's long-distance pipeline SCADA monitoring project has made the project successful in all aspects. Users participate in ICONICS' end-user support program, SupportWorX, to better access system upgrades and maintenance services from IOCNICS.

The system uses the ICONICS company's completely Web-based HMI/SCADA solution. Its server/client architecture enables seamless integration of intranet and extranet.

Project expansion

Today, the implementation of the second phase of the project is proceeding in an orderly manner. Since 2010, more than 2,000 kilometers of pipelines and facilities along the line, 50 million tons of oil refineries, and more than 300,000 square meters of oil storage bases have been monitored. Including 9 station control centers, 2 district control centers, and 1 regional command center, with a total of more than 108,000 data points.

After the system is completed, it will complete centralized control and long-distance scheduling of long-distance pipeline systems of Russian oil from the Baltic Sea to Siberia.
